MEET RACHELSIMONE

RachelSimone Wyley is a poet-essayist-songwriter-vocalist. She understands art to be the solution to racial inequity, not simply its mirror and megaphone. She leverages dialogue, deliberate pauses, and a differentiated relationship with time to manufacture the spaciousness needed for authentic exchange.

By leveraging music as a facilitation tool, RachelSimone activates the qualities of creativity, empathy, and vulnerability in others - however latent - to connect individuals in spontaneous community and then, to guide them through a process of critical unlearning and radical re-education. She deliberately disrupts the power dynamic that exists between artist (the "entertainer") and audience (the "entertained") and requires all present to offer their own emotional collateral as a critical part of the creation process.

WHY THIS IS NOT A PERFORMANCE

This is not a performance - it’s preparation for societal reimagination. It doesn’t - it can’t - happen apart from community. This is an inherently co-creative process. And you - the audience - have a much more significant role in the journey than you have ever before.

Listen IN.

Envision this: You walk into a space, take your seat, and the lights fade to black. You hear a disembodied voice open with a song lyric - ‘What would I have sung had I been free?’ The song concludes and is replaced by a deliberate pause. The second before the silence becomes too loud, the disembodied voice asks a question. From there, the work of community begins in a new container.
